Huckabee on Pakistan...Open mouth insert foot

Do you really want this man dictating our foreign policy?

"[F]ormer Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee suggested that after the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, the United States should, “have an immediate, very clear monitoring of our border, and particularly to make sure, if there’s any unusual activity of Pakistanis coming into the country. We just need to be very very thorough in looking at every aspect of our own security internally.”

Equating the death of Bhutto to illegal immigration, real classy. Huckabee said that Pakistani's make up the 2nd largest group coming into the US across the Mexican border. In fact they are not even in the top 25.

Huckabee "immediately addressed the Bhutto situation, expressing “our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.”

Apologized? Did he have a part in it? Poor choice of words...

"People who questioned my view of foreign policy probably need go back and read the speech that I delivered back in Washington in September. … What we’ve seen happen is that in the Musharraf government, he has told us that he really does not have enough control of those eastern borders near Afghanistan to be able go after the terrorists. But on the other hand, he doesn’t want us going in because it violates his sovereignty."

India is on the western side of Pakistan Mike...whoops again!

3 swings and 3 strikes on 1 international issue. This man might actually be worse for America then George Bush. Please Iowans, send him to packing to backwater Arkansas where he came from.

Huckabee's Faith-Based Views Find Critics, Fans in Both Parties

Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, December 21, 2007; Page A04

"
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- When the idea for a proclamation declaring Christian Heritage Week came up in 1994, Jim Guy Tucker, the Democratic governor of Arkansas, would not sign it. His aides said he did not think it was appropriate to honor a particular faith.

But when Tucker went out of town for a week and Republican Lt. Gov. Mike Huckabee became the acting chief executive, the Baptist minister enthusiastically signed the proclamation, declaring at a later celebration that he was taking a stand against "Christophobia."

"His detractors point to a governor who became indignant at criticism of his personal behavior, particularly after it was disclosed that he had accepted tens of thousands of dollars in gifts from supporters. And they say his views resulted in petty conflicts over matters such as Christian Heritage Week or his refusal to sign a disaster relief bill until legislators removed the words "acts of God" to describe tornadoes because Huckabee argued that God was protecting people from tornadoes, not causing them."

"Early in Huckabee's tenure as governor, an unidentified 15-year-old girl had an abortion after being raped by her stepfather. When the clinic sought reimbursement for the procedure through Medicaid, the state declined.

The amendment to the state constitution that Huckabee had worked to get passed did not include an exception for rape or incest. Federal law allows Medicaid funds to be used for abortions in such cases, but Huckabee stood firm, saying he did not want to violate the state's antiabortion measure."

"But Huckabee did not solely focus on abortion and other social issues, and his positions were not always typical of a conservative. His proposal to offer in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants, for example, was not just opposed by Republicans, it was more liberal than the position of many Democrats in the legislature.

Likewise, expanding health insurance to low-income children was not a priority when Huckabee entered office. But after a 1997 meeting with Amy Rossi, a children's rights advocate, the governor dropped plans for a $25 tax rebate to everyone in the state, persuaded instead to back expanded health insurance to uninsured children who did not qualify for Medicaid. It was an achievement he now singles out as one of the most important of his governorship.

And to fund programs to improve roads and schools, Huckabee advocated a policy that has left him open to attacks from his GOP primary opponents: raising taxes."

Mike Huckabee's Son is a DOG KILLER!

Mike Huckabee's son is a dog killer.

from "Newsweek"

As Mike Huckabee gains in the polls, the former Arkansas governor is finding that his record in office is getting more scrutiny. One issue likely to get attention is his handling of a sensitive family matter: allegations that one of his sons was involved in the hanging of a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp in 1998.

The incident led to the dismissal of David Huckabee, then 17, from his job as a counselor at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, Ark. It also prompted the local prosecuting attorney- bombarded with complaints generated by a national animal-rights group to write a letter to the Arkansas state police seeking help investigating whether David and another teenager had violated state animal-cruelty laws. The state police never granted the request, and no charges were ever filed.

A link that discusses how animal cruelty by children often leads to violence against humans...

Huckabee Light On Crime?

During his time in office Mike Huckabee had three times as many pardons as the three previous Arkansas governors combined! A grand total of 1,033.

Some recipients of Huckabee pardons were

-A stepson of a staff member
-Killers who worked at the governor's mansion
-Rock stars
-Inmates who received good words from their clergy

The Huckabubble

Huckabee? Is The GOP Serious?

excerpts from a Sun-Times column written today by Steve Huntley

"Only a Republican Party hell-bent on political suicide would nominate Mike Huckabee as its standard-bearer in next year's presidential sweepstakes..."

"A Huckabee nomination would all but guarantee the GOP an election debacle of the magnitude of Barry Goldwater's 1964 loss -- but without establishing a foundation for the future as Goldwater's candidacy did..."

"For starters, Huckabee carries religiosity into politics far beyond acceptable boundaries for most traditional Republicans..."

"But Huckabee brazenly campaigns in Iowa as the candidate offering "Christian leadership." How would we feel about a politician touting "Jewish leadership" or "Muslim leadership"? Huckabee is injecting religion into politics to the detriment of both. And he's hitting below the belt by playing an evangelical card against Mitt Romney's Mormonism. Dirty politics from an ordained minister."

"Social conservatives energized by Huckabee's bid for the GOP nomination might take note of news reports about how he avoids religion in his campaigning in New Hampshire. Voters there are more fiscally conservative and not swayed by a former preacher glibly joking that Jesus is too smart to run for office."

Mike Huckabee as Cultural Warrior and Uniter (we heard that before)

During the last debate Mike Huckabee was quoted saying

"We are right now a very polarized country, and that polarized country has led to a paralyzed government...We've got to be the united people of the United States."

But some of Huckabee's past statements show how little Huckabee cares about uniting anyone who doesn't have his views.

-in 1998 he is quoted saying "I hope we...take this nation back for Christ"

-in 1992 he was quoted saying that people with the AIDS should be quarantined

-in 1998 he endorsed an ad affirming the Baptist teaching that a "wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband"

-Huckabee also declared that people who do not believe in God tend to be immoral and to engage in "destructive behavior."

Huckabee also penned a book called Kids Who Kill: Confronting Our Culture of Violence in response to the Jonesboro Arkansas school shooting, which occurred on March 24, 1998 while Huckabee was governor of the state. It was hardly the book needed to mend the state after such a tragedy, in it Huckabee proceeded to blame everything for the school shooting stating that they were the cause of

"
a society in decline, a decline marked (and caused) by abortion, pornography, media violence, out-of-wedlock sex, divorce, drug use, and, of course, homosexuality."

Some direct quotes from the book are...

"Abortion, environmentalism, AIDS, pornography, drug abuse, and homosexual activism have fragmented and polarized our communities."

How environmentalism is linked to the other issues he mentioned was never explained. Further in the book he wrote...

"It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations—from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia."

What public endorses pedophilia, sadomasochism, and necrophilia was also never mentioned by Huckabee.

Huckabee sounds like another George W. Bush style "uniter"...the last thing this country needs.

Mike Huckabee Denies Evolution

Mike Huckabee's Cure for our Failing Health System

...we all need to lose weight!

"Frankly, Michael Moore is an example of why the health care system costs so much in this country. He clearly is one of the reasons that we have a very expensive system. I know that from my own personal experience," said Huckabee, who lost more than 110 pounds and became an avid runner after he was diagnosed with diabetes."

This weight loss came in part from telling his cook in the Arkansas governor's mansion to cook him more fish...costing Arkansas taxpayers more money. He started running during office hours, often conducting meetings while on a treadmill.

Get those treadmills in your cubicles people!

A Few Mike Huckabee Stats

Huckabee increased state spending 65.3% from 1996-2004, funded by 5 state tax increases...though he says he wants to cut taxes through is "Fairtax" national sales tax proposal.

Huckabee as been called the "biggest taxer and spender in Arkansas history"

Huckabee opposed a repeal of a sales tax on groceries and medicine in 2002, raised the gasoline tax in 1999, and signed a $5.25 bed tax on private nursing home patients in 2001.

The Cato Institute gave Huckabee an "F" for spending and tax policy in 2006.

During his tenure as governor the general obligation debt for the state of Arkansas increased by nearly $1 billion.

The 1999 gasoline tax increases were never on an Arkansas ballot yet Huckabee insisted "the fuel tax was a vote of the people—eighty percent of the people voted to improve roads."

Americans for Tax Reform called Huckabee a "serial tax increaser" in 2006.

Huckabee has complained that illegal Hispanic immigrants can not get financial aid for their education, saying denying them state benefits is "un-Christian."

Mike Huckabee and his National Sales Tax

Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee wants to replace the income tax with a national sales tax, he calls this a "fair tax"...but is that really so?
